Nutley Parks & Recreation’s 11th Annual Earth Day Celebration showed that the environmental movement is alive and well and that people of Nutley are engaged in making their communities healthier, safer and cleaner. A community clean-up project is being planned for “Earth Day 2018”. Earth Day began officially on April 22nd, 1970, when Earth Day founder Gaylord Nelson proposed the first nationwide environmental protest. 20 million Americans gathered and organized from coast to coast, to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment.

This town wide, community clean up will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2018, under the guidance of the Nutley Parks & Recreation Department. “Our goal is to bring the community together and raise awareness of the effects that negative pollutants have on our environment. Our water, air and ultimately the Earth are sustaining more and more damage with each year that passes” stated Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci.

A kick off ceremony will be held 9:00 a.m. at the Parks & Recreation Department, 44 Park Ave. At this time breakfast will be served, community service awards will be given out and supplies will be distributed.

We are encouraging residents to make this a family event! Bring your Mom, Dad, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles to make this a significant day in Nutley. All are invited to participate.

“As the fight for a clean environment continues, we need to demonstrate and stress the importance of a clean, healthy, environment for generations to come” stated Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci.

Nutley’s “Project Earth Day” is a great way for families, students, service groups, and neighbors to join together, take care of our community and support a healthy environment. We are in the process of developing teams and selecting team leaders. A meeting has been scheduled for Monday, April 16, 2018, Room 201 at 7:00 p.m. for interested participants. We encourage residents to join in the fight to keep the environment clean!

If you are interested in participating in this event, please contact the Nutley Recreation Department at (973)284-4966, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
