In addition, the John H. Walker Memorial Foundation, Inc. has established awards to be given to a boy and a girl from the sixth grade class in each of Nutley's elementary schools as well as from the graduating eighth grade class of John H. Walker Middle School. Each of the recipients will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card and a Walker Foundation pin and certificate.

These awards will be made to honor the memory of Mr. John H. Walker who served as one of Nutley's best loved educators for many years.

Mr. Walker has been described by many as a man who exhibited exemplary qualities of citizenship, leadership, compassion, teamwork and respect. He took a sincere, personal interest in all of Nutley’s students. In order to promote and encourage students to strive for these same ideals these elementary and middle school awards for 2019, will be bestowed upon students who possess these game qualities.

The "Walker?thon" will step off at John H. Walker Middle School at 6:45 and will proceed on Chestnut Street to the park entrance and continue south through the park to Centre Street. At Centre Street go west to Franklin Ave. north on Franklin Ave. and continue back to John H. Walker Middle School. Rain or shine the walk will be held. Friday September 28, 2018.
