Earthquakes, tsunamis, shifting rivers threaten the lives of millions of Bangladeshis. Bangladesh is located at the active juncture of three tectonic plates on the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna Delta which receives over one gigaton of sediment annually from the three large rivers. Seismologist Michael Steckler from Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory is part of an international team of scientists undertaking a five-year project to understand these hazards and the possible hidden links among them. He will be discussing this at this Friday’s meeting of the Montclair Society of Engineers.

All meetings of the Montclair Society of Engineers are free and open to the public.

Time: 8:00 PM, Dessert and beverages at 7:30
