Montclair High evacuates some students due to flames coming out from broken Ballast light

Posted

Montclair High School had yet another building issue today, when a light went out and created smoke and flames. The students near the area of the school where the broken light was located were evacuated.

The school wrote 'Today during Period 3, one of the ballasts (lights) went out in the balcony of the gym where study hall was taking place. There was a small flame and some sparks which quickly burned out, but this caused the panel of lights to go out and resulted in an acrid smell. No students were injured and they were immediately evacuated to another area. Our Buildings and Grounds Department was notified and they are currently replacing the ballast. Students will be relocated to an alternate area for afternoon study hall."

With 5 staircases down for the count and trailers on site for kids to use as classrooms, this was just the latest problem to hit the school.

No one was injured.
