Auditions: The Receptionist

The Receptionist

By Adam Bock

Directed by: Michael Smith-Gallo

At the start of a typical day in the Northeast Office, Beverly deals effortlessly with ringing phones and her colleague’s romantic troubles. But the appearance of a charming rep from the Central Office disrupts the friendly routine. As the true nature of the company’s business becomes apparent, The Receptionist is The Office meets Black Mirror and raises disquieting, provocative questions about the consequences of complicity with evil.

Audition Dates: June 30 at 7:00 and July 1 at 7:30 (rehearsals to begin in late July)

Performance Dates: September 12, 13, 14(two performances), 15

Audition Instructions:

Please prepare to your comfort level the 2-3 sides pertaining to your character.

Side #6 includes four lines for Beverly; Actors preparing for Beverly need NOT look at this side, we

will just be using a reader.

A note on language: The sides show the text exactly as it appears as Bock wrote it on the page. Lines sometimes drop off. Punctuation is sometimes missing. Sentences stop in the middle and new ones sometimes just begin with no break and a new capital letter, sometimes not even that. Not every punctuation (or lack thereof) needs to be played, but barring a major typographical error, trust that what you see in the sides is what appears in the script. Though some lines are confusing on a first read, they make sense when you realize that a thought changed mid-sentence or a character is working through what they want to say in real time. Have fun, and somehow make sense of it all!
