Home made ravioli, seafood, and live music - in West Caldwell
Vitella's - New Restaurant Dazzles in West Caldwell
Carlos, with one of his many pizzas made in the wood burning oven.

West Caldwell has a new secret treasure – and word is spreading.

Seven weeks ago, Vitella’s opened up its doors to the public.

But before you ask yourself if we need another Italian spot in this town, let me tell you: we do and you will love it.

From the moment we walked in, the staff made sure to make us feel comfortable.

Since I often eat out with my family, on this night I had a very picky 7-year old and my 17-year old with me.

The moment you set foot in this charming restaurant, you will notice the wood burning pizza oven – and the seemingly endless varieties of pizza.

There’s a children’s menu, and the hostess kindly offered my daughter crayons and something to draw on.

The bread was hot, crispy and accompanied by a high quality olive oil with herbs.

An appetizer new to all of us – Bostoni – delighted not only me but also my little one, who shocked me by wolfing down the oozy, spinach filled fried pasta tube.

It was light, green, and the hint of basil pesto took it to a whole new level.

My son decided to be traditional, and ordered the chicken parmesan, which he said was great.

As for me, I let the chef lead the way, and I wasn’t disappointed.

My homemade lobster ravioli, in a cognac sauce, was out of this world. These ravioli are hand crafted right on the premises, and are not to be missed. It really reminded me of the home made ravioli my grandmother made for me back in Providence in the sixties.

Looking at other entrees, I noticed a plethora of fresh seafood and plenty of pasta dishes that looked incredible.

As for prices, this menu offered entrees from under $10 dollars up to around $20 dollars, but overall the prices were reasonable and the portions big enough for us to take home not one but two doggie bags after our meal.

The restaurant is suited for families but would also be great for an evening out with friends, or a date.

On Wednesday through Saturday nights, there is live entertainment.

As we lingered over desert, the music mixed with the scent of delicious food – and we all agreed Vitella’s is our new go-to place for dinner, and lunch.

If you would like to check it out, they are located at 40 Clinton Road, next to the West Caldwell Library. The phone number is 973 228 6500.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and closed on Sundays.
