NYSC of Montclair Adds Wellness to Open House
Open House in Montclair Builds Partnerships in Health for Residents
By Diane Lilli
This was one Open House with plenty of healthy treats. Alma Schneider shows off some of her green smoothie (center, in apron) as happy fans join her at the NYSC in Montclair.

Though you may not belong to the gym he manages, Justin Marion wants you to join him as his health club takes a giant step forward into the future, and into your state of well being.
Instead of solely promoting workouts, this health club manager is taking a true interest in serving his local community, by running free events at the New York Sports Club on South Park St. in Montclair.
Yesterday, as he does every month, Marion hosted an Open House for current and potential members of the New York Sports Club, located near Church St.
But this was no typical marketing event.
Instead, the open house was more a by-product of a new, wholesome approach NYSC has launched of late – to encourage the local community to become healthier.
Montclair resident Alma Schneider, L.C.S.W., was smiling in her retro apron as people took a few minutes to hear her speak, and demonstrate, how simple it is to mix healthy ingredients with quick recipes for instant eating.
Schneider, a licensed social worker, is well known in the area for her being the founder and a participabt in ‘Parents who Rock’,  but she is also an established cook – and author.
Though she is not a chef by training, Schneider likens her persona to “Dr. Phil meets Rachel Ray”.
Gesturing to a rainbow colored tray filled with dips, Schneider said she wanted to show people in Montclair how simple it is to “take back the kitchen”.
“I made some edaname dip, which is full of protein, and I also have a spiced carrot dip and a beet dip,” she said. “There are less than 5 ingredients in them, and they are not only healthful but gorgeous as well.”
Taking a taste of each, it was obvious this was not Schneider’s first time whipping up new dips in the blender. Each dip was light, soulful and crisp, offering its own vibrant and summery taste.
“I am here to share my ideas and to encourage people to get back into their kitchens,” she added. “I am making smoothies, which I call green smoothies.”
These smoothies were created by Schneider to help adults and kids alike enjoy their greens.
“No one is getting enough greens,” she noted. “I mix up fresh fruits with a leafy green, such as kale, and you can serve this to kids who will just love it. It’s delicious.”
Adults and kids agreed.
As per the Open House, Marion also has other local businesses lined up to offer some healthful ideas for residents, including a therapeutic massage company that will visit during one of the next events.

“We are doing a customer appreciation day every month,” he said. “We want to show our members and potential members that we value them, and we want to offer something to the community.”
According to Marion, the entire NYSC group has decided to become more involved in their local communities.
“Our company believes that fitness and wellness has a place here,” he said. “This is not just a gym.”

One perk members raved about, besides the pristine gym and plentiful classes, was the free parking validation offered. With an hour of parking for free, working out just became a whole lot easier.
