9/20/14

While Officers were patrolling Route 21 South a vehicle was clocked on radar as traveling at 74 mph. A motor vehicle stop was initiated but the vehicle refused to pull over. The car was pursued into Newark where the driver Roger Maldonado-Melgar, age 20, of Newark was placed under arrest, He was charged with eluding, and resisting arrest. He was also issued 5 summonses for D.U.I., Speeding, Unlicensed, Careless Driving, and Failure to keep right on highway with marked lanes. Melgar was released with his pending Court date.

**Headquarters received a report of identity theft. The victim stated that they received a bill in the mail from AT&T wireless for $229.01, which was for two I-phones and service, which they did not order. It was found that the account was opened using the victim’s driver’s license, and Social Security number. The victim was advised to alert their financial institution of the fraudulent activity. The victim was entered into the national database as a victim of identity theft. The actor that made the purchase was described as a light skinned white or Hispanic male, close cropped brown hair, 5"8"- 5'10", early to late 40's. There is no further description at this time.

Suspect in Identity Theft in Belleville

**The victim of a suspicious incident reported it to Police. Several days ago they received a collection letter from Credit Collection Services Newton, Ma, regarding a specific file with a past due amount of $3,837.96. The victim does not have an outstanding balance from Verizon and was told they do their own collections. The victim did not send any funds and would be checking their credit reports for any other possible suspicious activity.

**Officers observed a suspicious person in a vehicle parked in Flora Louden park. The driver was found to be in possession of a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana, an "Entourage" cigar (which is commonly used to smoke marijuana), a green water bong and a bag of burnt “roaches.” Michael Montero, age 19, of Belleville, was placed under arrest and transported to Headquarters. He was fingerprinted and photographed and issued complaints for possession of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, and in addition two motor vehicle summonses for Possession of CDS in motor vehicle, and uninsured vehicle. He was released on his own recognizance.

9/21/14

**Officers were dispatched to the area of Warren Street on a report of a vehicle that was broken into. Officers observed the ignition was broken. It was not clear if the vehicle was locked after being used. Police are investigating

9/22/14

**Due to the time of morning (2:00 am) and the recent auto burglaries, Officers conducted a field interview with two males in the area of Walnut St. and Nutley Avenue. Joshua Garcia, age 22, of Belleville, was found to have two active warrants out of Belleville. He was placed under arrest without incident and transported to Headquarters. Additionally, Christopher Gallo, age 21, of Belleville, was also placed under arrest due to an outstanding warrant out of Paramus. Gallo was able to post bail and was released. Garcia declined to post bail and Belleville Officers responded to transfer him to their jurisdiction.

** The victim of fraud reported the incident to Headquarters. The party stated that they made a purchase at a small store via a card swipe on a telephone. Two days later there were several transactions made to their card that the victim did not authorize or make. Total monetary amount exceeded $400.00. There were transactions that were declined for payment and the victim’s bank has canceled their account.

9/23/14

** The victim of criminal mischief reported the incident to Police. Their van, that was parked on Plymouth Road, was found to have their rear window smashed. There is no description of any possible actors at this time.

**Responded to the area of Holy Family Church on a report of criminal mischief. Upon arrival, Officers spoke with the school custodian, who stated, a white male with blonde/brown hair and no shirt was roller blading and hitting flowers with a stick. There were several flowers that were uprooted. The area was checked but Officers did not observe any individuals matching the description given. The caller was advised to contact headquarters if they should observe any further damages.

**Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop on Washington Avenue on a vehicle who had an occupant that was known to have an active warrant. Joseph Geraldo, age 25, of Nutley, was arrested after confirming warrants out of Clifton, Montclair, and Belleville Townships. A search incident to arrest yielded a pill bottle that contained Xanax and a folded dollar bill holding 7 pills, identified as Oxycodone. Geraldo was charged with 1 count of possession, 1 count of possession with intent to distribute, and 1 count of possession with intent to distribution within 1000 feet of a school (Washington). Judge set the bail at $25,000.00 with a 10% option. Mr. Geraldo was provided opportunities to make bail, was unable, and transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

9/24/14

**Officers responded to Brookline Avenue on a report of criminal mischief. Upon arrival Officers spoke with a school official who stated they observed seven damaged plants and a damaged name plaque on the north side of the older church, adjacent to the sidewalk. The school official stated it was most likely the same actor from yesterday. Officers observed 7 damaged plants and a broken name plaque totaling $100.00 in damages as per the caller. Officers advised the victim to contact police if the actor should return.

**Responded to a store on Centre Street for a report of a theft. The owner stated that an unknown male took the newspapers delivered in front of the store. The suspect was wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

9/25/14

**Police were dispatched to the area of Myrtle Avenue on a report of an unknown female on the property. Upon arrival on scene Officers cleared the perimeter of the residence. The victim stated that they were watching TV and heard a car door close outside their window. The victim noticed a female they had never seen before looking around their vehicles parked in the driveway. Victims immediately contacted 9-1-1. The female was described as young and Caucasian, with long, dark-colored hair, wearing a dark-colored dress with a wave pattern across it. After noticing the victims, the unknown female got into the passenger seat of a dark colored SUV that was parked on Myrtle Ave. with its lights off. The SUV left the scene, with its headlights off, and was last seen making a left onto Park Ave. A description of both the SUV and the unknown female was broadcast over the police radio. Units checked the area for both with negative results. The victim inspected their vehicle and stated that they did not notice anything to be out of the ordinary.

**Headquarters dispatched Officers to Prospect Street on a report of a theft. The victim stated that a bicycle had been stolen from the side of their residence. It was described as a silver mountain bike with a value of $60. No further information was available at this time.

**The victim of a fraud responded to Headquarters to report the incident. It was stated that an account was opened with Verizon Wireless using the victim’s name. They contacted Verizon Wireless and spoke to the fraud department and they we able to confirm an unknown person opened an account under the victim’s name and social security number. Verizon advised the victim to contact all the credit bureaus to advise them of this incident and to see if any further fraudulent activity appears on their credit report. Officers also advised that due to this incident the victim was entitled to sign up to the FBI's Identity Theft File, however they declined at this time.

**The victim of identity fraud responded to Nutley Headquarters to report the incident. There was a charge made to their credit card from Lord & Taylor Online, but the order was cancelled shortly thereafter. Additionally, there was another attempt at a store in Pennsylvania. The credit card company closed the affected account and issued the victim a new credit card. There were no unidentified accounts opened in the victim’s name. The credit card company requested the victim document these events in a Police report.

9/26/14

**Another report of identity theft was made regarding an Unemployment issue. The victim applied for Unemployment and was declined due to them having a record of the victim currently working in Virginia. She contacted the Unemployment Office and spoke with a supervisor who advised the victim that someone is employed under their social security number, but was not sure what name they were using. The victim was advised to make phone calls and contact the IRS, Social Security, DMV, and their credit card companies.
