Headquarters received a report regarding a suspicious incident. The victim, who resides in a senior citizen home, received a phone call on their cell phone from an unknown party who sounded approximately 20-30 years of age, possibly a Hispanic male, who stated to the victim that their daughter had been kidnapped and that she would be killed if the father did not give him $1,500 dollars. The caller claimed to be a brother of a party who got into a motor vehicle accident with the victim’s daughter. The victim, hung up then made contact with their daughter who stated she was fine, and not involved with any accident. The incoming phone number of the suspect was checked via internet search and found to have multiple complaints logged, with the same story involving an accident, and ransom to be paid for family members being held hostage. Parties were advised to contact police if any further assistance was needed. A call to the number, by Officers, found no answer and the phone did not have a voice mailbox set up.

Lyndhurst Police contacted Nutley Police on with information regarding a stolen property report out of our jurisdiction. Patsy Orlando, 38, of Nutley, was arrested and charged with theft, which is a 3rd degree crime, advised of his Court date and released without incident.

A township business owner made a report of harassment to Police Headquarters. Continuous negative feedback has been appearing on review websites regarding the owner’s company. The websites remove the harassing comments and then additional ones appear with different alias names on each occasion. The victim was advised of procedures for filing a complaint should the author’s identity become known.

7/22/14 – 11:44

A medical office reported a theft from their workplace. Two envelopes prepared for deposit were taken from the premises. The Detective Bureau was advised and will pursue the matter.

A Nutley resident reported an incident of bad checks. Their company rendered services to one of their clients in the amount of $5700. A checked was mailed to pay for ½ of the bill, $2,475. The victim deposited the check on two occasions, and both times the check bounced. The victim was advised to mail a certified letter requesting the funds be paid and then was explained the Civil Court procedures should the monies not be collected.

A Watchung Place resident reported a suspicious incident. The victim’s minor child applied to open a bank account at a local branch. After leaving the bank, the victim was contacted regarding their child’s social security number being associated with another person’s name and banking information. The victim was advised by the financial institution to report the incident to the authorities along with the Social Security Administration. The victim is also having the child’s credit checked.

Criminal mischief to vehicle was reported in the area of Oakridge Avenue. The victim found a derogatory message written on the driver’s side portion of their front windshield. It appeared to have been done with a type of paint marker. The victim was advised to contact Police should they see anything or anybody suspicious or if there are any more incidents.

A Wayne Place resident reported criminal mischief to auto. Upon entering their vehicle, the victim noticed the rear passenger side tire was slashed, flat, and there were scratch marks on the rear panel behind the vehicle. The victim was advised to contact the Police if they should find any more damage, or if they see anything suspicious.

A local business reported a theft to Officers. The victim stated that the Star Ledger delivery was taken from the front of the store. Police reviewed the surveillance video and observed the actor in question a white male driving a dark colored SUV at 03:35 AM. Photos of the actor and vehicle have been entered into evidence and the victim was advised of their right to sign a complaint should the identification of the suspect be made.

A Washington Avenue business reported an incident of bad checks. The credit manager stated that a customer purchased a vehicle and had given two checks for deposit, in the amounts of $2,000.00 and $500.00, that didn’t clear. The credit manager called the place of employment to verify the customer’s employment and was told that the actor is not currently working at this time. The vehicle was worth $19,532.00 and the actor is in possession of the vehicle. The credit manager spoke with the actor and advised them to return the vehicle, or pay the $2,500.00 deposit. The business cannot process the loan without the money in hand. Officers contacted the actor and left a message on their voice mail. The actor was found to have a suspended driver’s license through NJ DMV. The manager was advised to send a certified letter to the actor to have them forward the funds. Incident is still open.

7/24/14 – 08:45

Officers responded to the area of Nutley Avenue regarding a harassing neighbor call. The victim’s state that their backyard neighbor has banging on their fence at all times of night and day. The victim stated that the neighbor began banging on the fence at approximately 1:00 am then again at 3:00 am and again just prior to Police arrival. The victim stated that the neighbor harasses them when they are outside of their house with verbal tirades. Officers observed a plethora of marks on the fence that was in the area where the victim stated was being banged upon. The neighbor was advised not to bang on the fence or have any communication with the neighbors. The victim was advised they may file a complaint with the Nutley Municipal Court for Harassment. They were also advised to call Headquarters if there should be any more problems.

A Walnut Street resident reported credit card fraud. The victim stated that someone had made two charges to their Bank Of America Visa card. The first one was on July 15th through Walmart .com for $25.61. The victim was given information that a package had been delivered and signed for at a Tuckerton, NJ address. They were also given the email address used for the transaction. The second transaction was through Barnes & Noble.com for $25.21. There was no other info provided. The card has already been canceled and the victim was advised to monitor their credit and other credit card activities. Officers were able to obtain information regarding a possible actor at the Tuckerton address. An attempt was made to get in contact with them, but the number had been disconnected. A search of the email address came back negative.

A third party caller reported an unknown, white female, who was screaming, and running franticly in Booth Park. The caller further stated she possibly was being attacked by bee's. Upon arrival, Officers found the victim sitting in her vehicle, conscious and alert. The woman stated she was walking her dog, when suddenly she and her dog were swarmed by bees. Officers observed a nest, knee level from the ground in a nearby bush, with a piece of the nest broken off and on the ground. The area was marked off with caution tape. The Parks Department was contacted and advised of the incident and reported that the nest would be addressed first thing in the morning. Victim was examined by NVERS and stated they would follow up with their personal physician.

7/24/14 – 20:38

Theft of services was reported at a Washington Avenue gas station. Upon arrival, Officers spoke with the attendant, who stated, they pumped $38 worth of gas into a newer model Honda Civic, and when they closed the gas cap and proceeded to go to the driver’s side window to collect the money, the driver took off out of the gas station and proceeded to go South down Washington Ave. The driver was described as a white female, with shoulder length hair, possibly in their 20's, driving a newer model Honda civic. The vehicle did not bear any plates on the front or back. The attendant will be in contact with the mechanic to view the surveillance footage and see if the identity of the actor can be obtained. The witness confirmed the description given by the attendant and also stated that the vehicle did not have any license plate or temporary tag. The victim was advised they could sign a complaint against the person responsible for the theft if they are positively identified.
