Researchers estimate that up to 15 million Americans have food allergies. This potentially deadly disease affects 1 in every 13 children (under 18 years of age) in the U.S. That’s roughly two in every classroom.

The economic cost of children’s food allergies is nearly $25 billion per year.

It’s a staggering - and sobering - statistic: FoodAllergy.org reports that 1 in every 13 children, or about 2 kids in every classroom in America under 18 has food allergies. Add that to the 15 million Americans overall who suffer from food allergies. The cost?
The economics of such a large percentage of the population suffering from food allergies equals about $25 billion per year, but the emotional toll is even worse.
A report from Medical News Today shares the results of studies that show children with food allergies are “increasingly more lonely; One allergic child out of five never attends peers' parties, while one in four always brings along "safe" food.”

Luckily, the food industry has taken notice. And if you are fortuante enough to live in or near New Jersey, do not miss the world’s largest Gluten Free and Allergen Free Expo (GF&AF) on October 15 & 16 in Secaucus. Whether you are a mom, family member, restaurant owner or food buyer, this is your chance to not only discover Gluten Free and Allergen Free foods but also to discover just how delightfully delicious they have become over the past few years.

Expo Founder and CEO of the Gluten Free Media Group Jen Cafferty said the growth of this Expo may be exponential, and that for millions of people, it’s not only a place to enjoy and find new foods, but also to share the news that these foods are absolutely scrumptious - and for everyone.

"The GFAF Expos are the place to be for those living a gluten-free or allergen-friendly lifestyle,” noted Cafferty. “If you are looking to try products before you buy them, purchase specialty items or take educational classes, you don't want to miss this community event! One of my favorite moments was at a recent GFAF Expo when a little boy walked in and said, "Mommy, it smells like gluten-free deliciousness!" The Expos are fun, family friendly and an incredible place for anyone living a specialty diet lifestyle."

With a mission to “meet the needs of the celiac community, those with gluten and food sensitivities, auto-immune/inflammatory diseases, and autism”, via “vendor expositions, educational sessions, and online resources”, this is THE place to be for anyone taking notice of their health, their food allergies, and how to eat more healthful foods.

The Gluten Free & Allergen Free Expo is at the Meadowlands Exposition Center on
October 15 & 16, 2916 from 10:00-4:00 pm.
