Officials from Montclair, Glen Ridge and Essex County gathered today for a ribbon cutting ceremony announcing the official opening of the newly renovated George Washington Field on the Montclair Glen Ridge border on Baldwin Street.

The multi-use field now has a new CoolPlay synthetic turf which is designed to reduce surface temperature without reducing field performance. The new turf is suitable for a variety of sports including baseball, softball, field hockey, lacrosse and soccer.

The field was renovated through a shared service agreement between Glen Ridge and Montclair with financing from the Essex County Recreation & Open Space Trust Fund. Montclair and Glen Ridge were both awarded $150,000 for the field renovations.

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, who announced the grant awards in October of last year, joined local officials for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
