Jump into the Gene Pool - Montclair Public Library offers DNA testing and genealogy research workshop

Montclair Public Library will host a DNA testing and genealogy research workshop on Saturday, October 18 at 2 p.m. Attendees will learn how to uncover their ethnic origins and find family connections.

The workshop will be led by Teresa Vega, a member of both the New York and New Jersey Chapters of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society will speak about DNA testing and genealogy research. Vega has a background in cultural anthropology and is the author of a genealogy blog, which can be found at www.radiantrootsboricuabranches.com.

The workshop will take place during the monthly African American Genealogy Group meeting at the library. The group was started to support and share sources of information for family tree research. Multiple sources include the census, DNA, workshops and guest speakers. The group’s name is “Sankofa,” a Ghanian word meaning “to go back for that which you have forgotten.”
