Get up and move it. Here are two local programs for kids that will get them off their smart phones - happily!

LET’S GET MOVING CLASS

Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci and the Nutley Parks and Recreation Department announce the fall session for “Lets Get Moving”. This high energy children’s program is designed to refine motor skills and increase balance through motivation. “Our goal is to contribute to the development of your child’s listening skills while enhancing their physical abilities” states Commissioner Mauro G. Tucci. The program is designed for children from 3 to 5 years of age. Classes are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 and will run for 8 weeks. This program will be held at the Recreation Annex Building located at 65 Bloomfield Ave. Residents may choose from a Tuesday class at 1:00 p.m. or a Thursday class at 9:15 a.m. Class size is limited to 15 per session. Online registration is now available at https://nutleynj.my.gov-i.com/recreation or applications are available at the Recreation Department, 44 Park Ave.

FUN WITH MUSIC RESUMES

The Department of Parks and Recreation offers countless programs for all ages to enjoy. The “Fun with Music” program will resume for a fall session, scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 and continue for 8 weeks. Classes will be held at the Recreation Annex Building located at 65 Bloomfield Ave. Residents may choose from a Tuesday class from 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. or a Thursday class from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45.

This class has had a tremendous response from the community. Children ages 18 months to 3 years are exposed to the positive influence of music and movement through this energetic class. Mrs. Mary Wilde leads the children in segments of singing, dancing, short stories, parachute play and simple instrument introduction. Parents get to interact with their children in an environment other than their home, which provides a wide range of benefits for the children.

This character building class helps prepare these youngsters for the next level, whether that is pre-school or other organized sports.

Pre-registration is required for this program. Class space is limited and will be honored on a first-come basis. Online registration is now available at https://nutleynj.my.gov-i.com/recreation. If you would like further information on this or any other recreation program, please contact the Nutley Parks & Recreation Department at (973)284-4966, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
