My son ordered one of his favorites, which is one of the chef’s signature dishes: the Pork Chop Giambotta. This dish is so out-of-this-world “top chef” you can order it with the Pork Chop (my favorite) or with other combinations such as Chicken etc.

Every layered piece of this little leaning-tower-of-delish was a bite of sheer heaven.

I kept picking at it, and who can blame me. The Pork chops are tender, juicy and the potatoes stay crisp and thinly sliced, the peppers still have plenty of life in them and the sauce melts into the entire dish.

Let’s face it: this chef’s name, Michael Angelo, has a lot to live up to, but Foodies: he does it with flying colors. Instead of painting or sculpting in marble, like the famous artist Michaelangelo , this Jersey born Michael Angelo is creating works of edible art, and let me tell you: book a reservation for his spot in Fairfield now.

Michael Angelo has been a beloved local chef for over 2 decades, serving up classic and also inspired Italian dishes.

Once he closed his Newark location on Bloomfield Ave, he eventually migrated to the Fairfield location, which is a charming and bustling space with plenty of charm, exquisite service and the same delicious food.

And when you go, take heed: be very hungry!

First of all, you have to order one of the fantastic, delectable pizzas, which are square and so good you may just gobble it all up and not have room for dinner!

There are also some stellar appetizers here, such as the Mozzarella in Corrozza, done crispy yet somehow light and fluffy; Shrimp Beeps, all types of fresh and unique salads, seafood salad (a must) and many others.

Entrees are, simply, out of this world. You will truly be tantalized and traumatized when it comes time order, since there will also be specials. When I recently went with my foodie-son and former chef turned teacher Andrew, I finally said, “This is not your last meal - so pick!”

For our meal on Friday night, we ordered two favorites: the Fusili, hand made, with sausage, and the Pork Chop Giambotta.

Since I have been eating a low or no-carb diet for a very long time, you know it’s special when I let myself enjoy such a dish, and it was well worth every bite! The pasta is freshly made, so al dente yet fresh; the sauce has a dash of the piquant in it, and is served with luscious Italian sausage. Wow.

Since I had to take a photo of their Sunday gravy dinner, which the couple next to us ordered, I have to share: when I used to go to the original Michael Angelo’s on Bloomfield Avenue on the Newark/Bloomfield border, I was obsessed with this entree.

Why?

I cook my Sunday gravy just like my mother, my grandmother, and my great-great grandmother did in Italy. This is the closest gravy and meatballs I can find to match the luscious, sweet and comforting taste not just of the sauce, but of my childhood.

If you have room for dessert, check out the cookie pie, which is a warm slice of a chocolate infused cookie/pie served with ice-cold vanilla ice cream.

I don’t get to rave about too many restaurants, which is why my reviews are not written as often as I’d like, so this review was just a joy to publish.

For a slice of heaven, and if you are Italian-American, a trip down memory lane, check out Michael Angelo’s Restaurant and Brick Oven.
