Summer evenings hold a magic all their own. Where else can you take the time to visit with friends and neighbors in a relaxing atmosphere while you listen to music, watch the sunset and forget the cares of the day? And all for free!

Our August concert Series continues on August 11 with Adam Laboz and MyMyndMocean. The band MyMyndMocean was started almost 10 years ago by satirist/guitarist Adam Laboz. He joined up with drummer/percussionist Brian Kolins shortly after the band’s beginning and they’ve continued playing together ever since.

MyMyndMocean has undergone several personnel and name changes over the years, but the goal of the music has always been the same- to fuse the Eastern sounds of the sitar with Western music and instruments, creating something different and new. By doing that it expands the boundaries, sounds and playing style of the sitar, which does have its limitations by design and tradition.

The band’s newest members are Mike Manuele on bass and guitar. Mike likes to experiment with the sound of the bass- not only laying down a solid groove, but taking it in new sonic directions. Malcolm Smith joined recently on tabla, percussion and vocals. Malcolm is a devout student of the tabla and Indian music in general. His input and talent has helped expand the sound and creativity of the band.

MyMyndMocean’s first album has been released on the independent Musso Music record label. It can be found (listed as My Mynd Mocean) on Pandora, Rdio, and over 4000 music web sites worldwide

Also performing on August 11 is Edwin Carine and Geezer. Edwin Carine is a Montclair resident since 1985, father of three sons who went through the Montclair schools, and husband of Margaret Schilling, the gardener and quilter and PICU nurse.

Ed plays bass in the band Geezer, which plays old style rock n roll and has played at Tierneys, and benefits around town. The Geezer band will perform. Geezer began as a basement Jam at Eddie Carine's house, sometime in the previous century. Today's Geezer has a dozen children that we know of, and at least two grandchildren. We've played at benefits in town, block parties and birthday parties. We have played at two Parents who Rock gigs this year and it's been great fun and most satisfactory to help out. There are five of us in the band. (Grandpa) Stevie (Ray) Knox, (Grandpa) Steve Wolf play guitars, Scott Galbraith (the singing drummer) does percussion and vocalism, Edwin (sound man) Carine plays bass, harmonica, and rarely, kazoo and ukulele; and the legendary Tom McDonough (on keyboard) plays all the piano, organ and horn parts. We have opened for Cranes are Flying, On the Water, and PostSunTimes at Tierneys, and are booked at Bradford Bath & Tennis Club this July.

On August 18, the Foggy Minded Boys will perform. The Foggy Minded Boys are a six member band based in Montclair. They were founded in 2004 and perform bluegrass, country, popular and comedy for not-for-profit organizations. They have played at numerous fundraisers, coffeehouses, parties and public events.

Also performing on August 18 is The Michael Reitman Band. Michael Reitman is a Montclair resident and parent of two children. A plasterer and painter by trade for almost 40 years, he has a storied career working in midtown Manhattan for many notable artists and musicians.

The final concert in the series will be on August 25. Zara Phillips regularly performs her music at clubs in NYC and New Jersey. She lives with her husband, Jonathan, and three lovely children. Check out her website (www.everythingzara.com). Zara Phillips began her professional career working as a backing vocalist for Bob Geldof. Live-Aid creator Geldof recruited Phillips for his first solo projects after he departed the chart-topping U.K. band, The Boomtown Rats. She worked on Geldof’s album, “Deep in the Heart of Nowhere,” music videos and television appearances on some of the U.K.’s most highly rated programs. She also toured extensively with Geldof. Zara moved to Los Angeles where she continued writing new songs and performing solo. In 2005 Zara finished work on a new CD titled “When the Rain Stops,” produced by Ted Perlman, winner of 2006 Grammy Award for Burt Bacharach’s CD “At This Time.” Zara’s work with Ted features 14 original tracks written by her (one track is a co-write with Ted). Zara’s deeply personal song, “Secrets,” was used on the Emmy Award winning daytime soap, “Passions.” Two other songs, “My Time” and “Naked Loving You,” both are heard on the soundtrack for upcoming films from Organic Digital Productions.

Also performing on August 25 is String Theory Classic Rock Band. A five-piece classic-rock band based in Rutherford, initially established in 2007 to provide one live performance at an education fundraiser. The result was such a hit, that founding members continue to entertain at your favorite local establishments throughout North Jersey. Recreating your favorite tunes as well as a few rare gems, this band covers the Kinks to Pink, the Grateful Dead to the Eagles to Steely Dan, Talking Heads to Tom Petty to the Wallflowers, James Taylor to Amy Winehouse. Get ready for the group that represents your alternate universe. . . String theory!
