The changing color of leaves and the chill in the air remind us that leaf season is approaching. The Public Works Department will have a special leaf bag distribution day on Saturday, October 10th at the Public Works Garage from 8 am to 1pm. The leaf bag give away will be combined with a food drive for the Red Cross food pantry.??“Once again, I am asking residents to help stock the Red Cross food pantry. Canned goods, cereal, peanut butter, pasta, and rice are all needed. Residents can pick up their free leaf bags and at the same time help out those who are less fortunate,” said Dr. Scarpelli.??In addition, if residents are unable to participate in the October 10th distribution day, the department will once again provide 10 bio-degradable leaf bags at no-charge to residents at the Public Works Garage located on Cortland Street, weekdays starting Tuesday, October 13th between the hours of 8am and 3pm. Proper identification will be required.

Leaves and all other vegetation will be picked up on Wednesdays by Future Sanitation through December 15th. Vegetation must be placed in brown bio-degradable bags or in a container. Plastic bags will not be accepted.??In addition, the RAKES program will enter its seventh year this fall providing assistance to the elderly and the disabled. “The RAKES program will be utilizing volunteers to help out those who are unable to rake their yards. Details and applications will be forthcoming,” concluded Scarpelli.
