This grant will go a long way in assisting the Township in upgrading our fields especially the Essex Valley School Field. In partnership with our sister town the Borough of Caldwell, we jointly applied and were successful and fortunate to have received these grants. Combined for both Communities the $300,000 will go towards the Essex Valley School field project. Along with innovative revenues and the combined grants, most of the field costs will be minimal to both towns.”

At the Caldwell council meeting, the mayor and council were thrilled to announce they are receiving a grant, along with West Caldwell, from Essex County. The release, below, applies to both towns, since this is a shared service and will be shared with the students in all towns.

In total, $300,000 will pay for improvements to a field in need of updating.

Release from West Caldwell:

The Township of West Caldwell is proud to announce the award of a $150,000 Essex County Open Space Grant from the The County’s Open Space Committee and the Office of Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo.

West Caldwell Mayor Joseph Tempesta stated, “This grant will go a long way in assisting the Township in upgrading our fields especially the Essex Valley School Field.

Joining Mayor Tempesta in receiving the check was Councilman Michael Docteroff and community recreation liaison Kathy Canale. Tempesta stated,” Canale and Docteroff were instrumental in preparing the grant application and worked hard on behalf of the residents of West Caldwell and in particular for our children.”

The project to upgrade the Essex Valley School field is targeted to commence in the spring or summer of 2015 and should be completed and ready for use by fall of 2015.
