Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco and the Freeholders have announced that the county will be hosting its first ever LGBTQ Pride Celebration and Flag Raising Ceremony on June 28 at 5 p.m. in the piazza at One Bergen County Plaza.

The celebration and flag raising will be held in conjunction with the Bergen County LGBTQ Advisory Committee which was established in 2015 in recognition of Pride Month and has 15 members throughout the county.

“I’m pleased to welcome members of the LGBTQ community, allies, and all Bergen County residents to the first countywide LGBTQ Pride celebration and flag raising ceremony,” said County Executive Tedesco. “We are proud to honor the history and the progress of the gay rights movement, and celebrate this important group within the Bergen County family. It is also an opportunity to stand in solidarity against bigotry, violence, and discrimination and reaffirm our commitment to equal rights for all.”

“Bergen County’s LGBTQ Advisory Committee is doing some great work, and I’m thrilled we are able to host the County’s first LGBTQ flag raising and pride celebration during Pride Month and on the anniversary of Stonewall,” said Freeholder Vice-Chairwoman Tracy Zur, who serves as the Freeholder Liaison to the committee. “With the tragedy in Orlando and all that is happening nationwide, this event serves as a powerful message that Bergen County is a place where diversity is embraced and where everyone has a seat at the table. I encourage everyone in Bergen County to join us as we recognize some of Bergen County’s LGBTQ rights pioneers.”
