BERGEN COUNTY YOUTH POLICE ACADEMY WELCOMES NEW CLASS OF CADETS

Posted

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Bergen County Sheriff’s Office announce class #11.

The Academy is a two-week camp that is offered to local high school-age students, free of charge. The camp is funded through the use of funds forfeited from criminal enterprises. Sixty cadets will attend this year’s Academy, which runs from June 29 through July 10, 2015.

The motto of the Bergen County Youth Police Academy is “Honor – Respect – Commitment.” The objective is to educate the cadets about public service including county government, the judiciary, emergency services and law enforcement.

“Strong emphasis is placed on self-respect, respect of others, teamwork and commitment to one’s goals,” stated Prosecutor John L. Molinelli. “With structured events that are informative, interactive, educational and hands-on, these young people receive valuable training directly from law enforcement professionals.”

The academy’s “home base” for the first 3 days is the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute in Mahwah, with many informative field trips planned. Academy events will culminate with a graduation ceremony to be held at the Bergen County Academies auditorium in Hackensack on July 10 at 4:00pm.
